CrossFit is the best way to train for HYROX

Why CrossFit is the Best Way to Train for HYROX

So you’ve heard the buzz about HYROX and you’re wondering:
“Can I do this?” “What’s the best way to train for HYROX?”

If you’re already doing CrossFit, the answer is a big yes. And the best way to train is with us. Our coaches are here to help you train for the challenge—whether your goal is to race or just mix things up.

You Already Train for Variety

CrossFit teaches your body to adapt to ever-changing demands—one day it’s rowing and burpees, the next it’s sled pushes and carries. HYROX is the same. It requires a blend of cardio, strength, and stamina, all of which are baked into our daily workouts. That’s why many athletes consider CrossFit the best way to train for HYROX.

You Know How to Pace Yourself

HYROX is long. It’s a grind. But CrossFit has already taught you how to manage intensity, pace your rounds, and stay consistent under fatigue. That pacing ability is one of the biggest competitive advantages a CrossFitter brings to the HYROX floor—and another reason CrossFit is often the best way to train for HYROX.

You’re Mentally Tough

You’ve pushed through grueling AMRAPs and high-volume chippers. You’ve hit the wall and kept moving. That mental grit is one of your most valuable tools in a HYROX race.

You Know These Movements

Wall balls? Check. Rowing? Check. Sleds, lunges, carries? Check, check, check. You’re not just familiar with these movements—you know how to do them efficiently under fatigue. Still learning? Our coaches will help you get there, and we also offer 1:1 personal training to dial in your skills.

How We’re Training for HYROX at Commonwealth

We’re gradually layering HYROX elements into our classes to help you build capacity over time. You’ll see:

  • Longer metcons with running and functional movement pairings
  • Sled work, wall balls, SkiErg, and carries programmed regularly
  • Partner workouts that reflect HYROX doubles race strategy
  • HYROX-specific workouts added to the class schedule

You don’t need to sign up for a race to benefit. You just need to show up, be consistent, and enjoy the process. For many athletes, building fitness this way turns out to be the best way to train for HYROX—because it develops strength, endurance, and efficiency all at once.
